Sheik Silva

Sheik Silva began his career as a classical guitarist in São Paulo, Brazil, where he was born.

He studied Brazilian composers of classical music such as Ernest Nazareth, Anibal Ferreira (Garoto), Baden Powel, Dilermando Reis, Villa Lobos as well as the compositions of Bach, Beethoven and Chopin for five years.

He has a wide experience of playing the guitar and percussion in various music groups, and has also sung in the "Chorus of the community of Martin Luther King". In addition, he has played in many operas, including "Drumondiana" by Carlos Drumond de Andrade and "Ópera do Malandro" by Chico Buarque de Holanda (an adaption of the "Three Penny Opera" by Brecht and Weill.

He has given performances in Germany, Spain and Italy. Sheik Silva has taught music in a wide variety of educational institutions since 1991, including the University of Public Administration (INPA-Instituto Nacional de Administracion Publica) in Alcalar de Hernarez, Spain, where he taught rhythm and dance groups.
In Germany, he taught dance and percussion in specialist music colleges as well as giving seminars and workshops in Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Bremen and Köln. In Austria, he has given dance and percussion workshops, among other places at the Social Pedagogical Institute of Lower Austria, Upper Austria and Salzburg ("Sozial-Pädagogisches Institut Niederösterreich, Oberösterreich, Salzburg")

Sheik Silva is currently directing various artistic and socio-cultural projects and is also a percussionist in the "Vienna International Student Orchestra, V.I.S.O."
