Project "New Ways"

History

The idea for this project emerged in 1990 in São Paulo, Brazil, among a group of teachers who wanted to improve education.

Meeting every month to discuss the topic "the art of teaching", they focussed on the problems of a lack of interest and motivation among children and adolescents, seeking to identify factors that impede children’s progress.

By sharing their experiences and analyzing classroom situations, the group identified key factos influencing children’s motivation. They concluded that a lack of motivation and interest was not connected to the social and cultural status of pupils or the type of school. The group looked for new ways to tackle teaching problems and encourage children.
