Afro-Brazilian Music and the History of Rhythm

The goal of this project is to show the roots of Brazilian music from the time when Brazil was discovered until today with comprehensive aspects of Brazilian folklore, classical and modern music.

Participants will also be introduced to Brazilian poetry in music, including the religious songs of the slaves during the time when Brazil was a Portuguese Colonies.

Apart from elements to the African culture, which strongly influenced Brazilian music, other important aspects studied in this seminar are:

  • The history of different rhythms and their meaning in the present world (time).
  • Rythmic sensitivity as a source of social educational.
  • Rythm as body orientation and a feeling of space
  • Rythmas the field of active and creative productivity in the social and economical pictures.
  • Dance: Influence in social and psychological behavior of modern music and modern rhythm.

Photos, texts, film clips and original Afro-Brazilian music instruments are used to enrich the materials.
On completion of the seminar, each participant receives a diploma.
